Pussyhat Project™ Global Outreach

The Pussyhat Project™ was about making a powerful visual statement at the January 21, 2017, Women’s March on Washington, D.C.  But there’s a whole lot more to this. At its core, this project is about:

1. Creating a concrete, accessible, thoughtful way for those who cannot attend activism events in person to be heard and represented,

2. Developing meaningful, respectful connections among people who care about women’s rights, and

3. Creating a framework for community and personal agency from the local to the national level.

And we have just begun to achieve these goals. Because of the hundreds of thousands of people involved in the Pussyhat Project™ so far, the Pussyhat™ has grown into a symbol of support and solidarity for women’s rights around the globe.

So Where Do We Go from Here?

One of the most remarkable outcomes of the project was the immense, real support we as a collective movement felt from each other and were able to project. Therefore, on International Women’s Day on March 8, 2017, Pussyhat Project™ wants women around the world to know we see you and we are with you. We are in this fight together. We continue to deliberately stand together to support each other as we shout out, “Women’s Rights are Human Rights.”

March 8th provides the perfect opportunity to turn all the corners of the earth pink with Pussyhat pride.

How Can I Take Part? Let Us Count the Ways

Wear your Pussyhat™ and March! There will be marches around the world starting on March 4. We encourage you to wear your Pussyhat™ and participate in one of these physical marches, if you are able.

Take part of our Pussyhat™ Virtual March. Whether you are not able to march yourself or if you are at a physical march you can join our virtual march. Here’s the plan:

Wherever you are on March 8, whether you’re marching, working, picking up your children at school, resting at home, wear your Pussyhat™! Then share a pic of yourself (holding a sign, if you wish, of where you from and what you are for) on social media using #pussyhatglobal. If social media is not your thing, you can send in a picture to global@pussyhatproject.com. Show your support of women’s rights loud and clear.

There Are Still More Ways to Take Part…

Make and give a Pussyhat™! Pussyhats™ are still in high demand. Knit, crochet, or sew a Pussyhat™ for the many people who are still looking for one. Include a note to about what women’s rights issue is important to you with contact info, if you wish. Take your hat with you to a march and give it to a marcher, connect with a marcher you know or over social media, or drop your hat off at a local drop site listed on our Locations page.

Become a local ally! If you are a local yarn store and want to list your store on our website, please fill out this form. We would love for you to join us!

If you are hosting a knitting party, please spread the word about your gathering! We are working on a way for you to share more widely. Stay tuned!

Find a Pussyhat™! If you are looking for a Pussyhat™, you can make your own, connect with a knitter/crocheter/sewer directly or over social media, or contact a local drop site to see if there may be a hat for you! Once you have your hat, check to see if your knitter left you a note. If so, please thank her.

Can’t go to the march? Don’t knit? That’s okay! Check out "Spreading the Word" for other ways to get involved, including hosting local Pussyhat™ Knit-alongs happening in your neighborhood.

At Pussyhat Project™, everyone can get involved! Everyone can be included.

In solidarity,

Pussyhat Project™
